We’ve pulled some of the most frequently asked questions from our guests and compiled them all into one place. Chances are you’ve got the same questions that were on someone else’s mind. Should you have any other questions that we may have missed, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Do you allow pets?
Yes, you are able to have pets as long as it meets the requirements that are outlined in the Pet Policy. You will be required to complete all necessary forms, have a veterinary statement of health, and pay a pet security deposit before the animal is allowed into the unit
Do you have a smoking policy?
All buildings, common areas and apartments are smoke-free. More information may be found here.
Do you require a security deposit?
A security deposit is required for each unit. The deposit must be paid in full at the time the lease is signed.
How do I apply for housing?
The first step would be to complete an application. You may do this either by contacting our office to receive an application or printing the application and sending it to our office at 347 Franklin Street, Galena, IL 61036.
How do I know if I qualify for housing?
HUD has income guidelines depending on the number of members in each family. The income guidelines are updated on a yearly basis. To see if you qualify, visit the programs tab where the current income limits are listed.
How far are you from Chicago? Is there public transportation?
Jo Daviess County is approximately 160 miles from downtown Chicago, IL. Greyhound Bus does service some communities throughout Jo Daviess County, the Jo Daviess County Transit offers rides for a charge within the County and nearby areas and Galena has cab service.
How much will rent be?
Rent is based on household income. Thirty percent of your gross adjusted income will be charged for rent. Families may elect to pay the flat rent assigned to each apartment type.
What amenities do you have?
Each facility offers off-street parking, on-site laundry (excluding family units), plus green space. The family units have individual hook-ups for laundry within the units.
Will I be required to sign a lease?
The Housing Authority of the County of Jo Daviess does require that a year lease be signed. Under certain circumstances, with a 30-day written notice, the lease can be terminated.
